The Subtitling Experience
The purpose of SubtitleYourVideo is to make subtitling so easy and so much fun that anyone can subtitle, and everyone wants to play in the subtitle sandbox.
SubtitleYourVideo not only puts subtitling within everyone's reach, but also enables personalization of your subtitles. You can insert and change people's names, group names, text and other elements to target your viewer. Everything is saved in a private, secure database created especially for you. Come back anytime to add new languages, make changes, and personalize.
First, create original language subtitles
Click to upload your video (or audio) to the web. Then, paste the text (script) of the video into a field. If you don't have the text, no problem! Transcribe it on-line here, or click to request fast transcription service. And, of course, if you would like to relax and have someone else to subtitle for you, just click here!
Now, the fun begins!
- First, split into Full Sentences...
Click a button and SubtitleYourVideo will automatically split your video text into "full sentence subtitles". Press the "Play" button. As you watch the video, click your mouse at the beginning of each sentence. You'll feel like you're playing a video game (and winning). This process tells the software the timecode where each sentence begins.
Why Full Sentences? Full sentences are easier for translators, and result in fewer errors. And if you plan to click for automated translation, the translation software requires full sentences to even come close to being correct.
Subtitle styles
- Choose your subtitle "look"...
SubtitleYourVideo will split the sentences into the subtitle breakdown of your choice, and save that breakdown separately from the full sentences. You can re-break your sentences in another subtitle style anytime.
Select your preferences: short subtitles, long subtitles, full sentences, paragraphs. Choose colors, font sizes. You can adapt your subtitle "look" to your audience's preferences: movie viewers often like short fragments, business executives may prefer full sentences, and technical viewers may prefer full paragraphs (medical conferences, engineering, whitepapers, and similar). The longer varieties of subtitles, like sentences and paragraphs, are for the web, not television viewing.
Translating the subtitles
- Professional translator
- Amateur translator
- Automated translation by language software
SubtitleYourVideo provides everything - and everyone - that you need. Use your own translator, click to request a qualified, professional translator from the Directory of Translators, or click for automated translation.
Once you determine who will translate, there are two different ways to translate: by typing on-line or typing in a computer file (MS Word or Excel) that imports into SubtitleYourVideo.
Translators log in to access their specific project, in their language, and can watch the movie with their subtitles displayed. Translations are stored in the database, and there are pro features such as glossaries, foreign spell-checks, quality control, reviews and approval cycles.
